Frequently Asked Questions
Question: "What is MOMS Club (R) exactly?"
MOMS Club(R) is an international non profit organization and an open member community, which means we will never discriminate based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or financial hardships. We welcome all! To visit the main website, please click here. If you live outside of Shakopee, or Prior Lake, MN, but would like to join, find your local chapter by clicking here.
Question: "How much does it cost?"
One great aspect about MOMS Club is that no one is paid to do this - which means no hard sales tactics, or pressures to join for us to meet commission, or quotas. We are genuinely passionate about what our organization can offer women in our community, and simply strive to offer support, encouragement and friendship. Our annual dues are 20$ a year, which helps offset the cost of monthly meeting rooms, membership activities, and parties. Four dollars of every twenty, goes directly back to the MOMS Club, and the rest is decided on at every business meeting. Being a non profit, we keep the remainder of your dues in a bank account for the chapter, and vote on how much is allocated for service projects, holiday parties, or mother to mother funds. Because we understand the often financial sacrifices mothers at home make, we otherwise strive to host free events in members homes, and in the community. However if you're currently experiencing financial hardship, please don't let that stop you from joining! We would never want to turn a mother away ~ and can ask for permission to waive the dues that year on a case by case basis.
Question: "What if I'm not a SAHM, but a - (WAHM, or PTwork, etc.)?"
You're still a mom, and deserve support :) Our chapter is required by bylaws to host events during daylight hours, which means most of our members who would get the most out of our club, would be mothers who are at home during the day (in whatever capacity). However, we do offer one day a month Mom's Night Out's, a Couple's Night, and a Family Day (which is allowed to be held on the weekends, if our members vote for it). Otherwise, we try to make sure our mothers are home to spend time with their significant other's on the weekends. Each chapter is member driven, and focuses on the needs in our community. We can have some playdates that can be scheduled specifically in mind for mother's whose husbands/partners work non average hours. We can have an alumni page for mothers who have returned back to work once their kids are in school, but would like to participate in the other club's activities (like the above mentioned, as well as a book club, arts and crafts club, coffee chats while kids are at school, etc.). We also know some members have varying job hours, like a teacher who we would see more during the summer, and holidays. Don't let your child being a specific age, or your work schedule, keep you from thinking this can't be the club for you!
Question: "Okay, so I think I might want to join, what now?"
That's great! There are several things you can do next. You can attend one of our public events, and meet with some of our members, and/or one of our business community meetings. You can also reach out to our club directly (click on the "contact us" tab for more information). Once you decide to join, we will give a welcome packet, containing some community information, as well a sign up form. This form, and dues would be expected to be given to a board member of the club, at your first event. Then you'll be sent an email containing our bylaws, the current newsletter, and last month's business meeting, as well as being added to the private facebook group for our chapter, where you can chat, support, and see (and sign up!) all the events scheduled for the month.
